AUDCO MADE TO WAIT TO CONFIRM LEAGUE POOL TITLE
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Audco were unable to secure the 2007-2008 Newport & District Pool League, after being held to a controversial 3-3 draw at Junction A. The Bellman’s Yard side only needed one win from their remaining three games to see off the King’s Head, but luck was not on their side at Norbury.
Skipper Andy Lycett complained that the luck seemed to run with the Junction throughout the match and Paul Trevor was involved in a controversial frame defeat. Lycett maintained his unbeaten run, but Tom Sayce was beaten by the Junction’s in-form Keith Rogers as the Norbury side continued their late charge for third place with a 3-3 draw.
The King’s Head maintained their push for second position with a 5-1 victory over the Boat at Gnosall. Irene Whittington, Mick Collins, Neil Hallett and Phil Emery led the way with a clean sweep of the singles matches against Dave Rogers, Nigel Sandbrook, Mick Hall and Dave Lakin.
Collins and Hallett sealed the fifth frame against Rogers and Hall, but Lakin and Sandbrook restored some pride for the Gnosall side by beating Whittington and Emery.
LSC skipper Dave Price hastily rearranged the crucial fixture against the Shakespeare for a Thursday night and paid the price for his folly. The date suited the away side far better and the 4-2 home defeat cost LSC a potential stab at second place and gave the Upper Bar side a great chance of finishing second in their debut season.
The Wheatsheaf managed to pip the Navy Club 4-2 at the second Bellman’s Yard venue to give them a chance of securing eighth in the league, while closest rivals Sutherland Muxton were held to a 3-3 draw by a resurgent Junction B.
