JEDDAH RALLY TOYOTA DRAWS THE CURTAIN ON SAUDI TOYOTA CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON
JEDDAH (SAUDI ARABIA): Jeddah Rally Toyota brings the 2024 Saudi Toyota Rally Championship to a conclusion next weekend (December 19th-21st).
The three-day event will be based at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit (JCC) and the venue will host administration checks and the pre-event press conference on Wednesday, December 18th.
The ceremonial start will take place in the JCC F1 Circuit Parking area from 13.00hrs on Thursday (December 19th), before competitors tackle a nearby Prologue stage of approximately 11.00km from 15.00hrs. This will determine the starting order for the following day’s opening stage.
The first of two longer desert selective sections of approximately 183km gets underway from Qudaid, north of Jeddah, on Friday (December 20th) morning.
The competitive action concludes on Saturday (December 21st) with the second selective section of around 103km in the historic agricultural governorate of Khulais in the Mecca Province, northeast of Jeddah, for a total competitive distance of 296.00km.
The post-event press conference and prize giving ceremony will then take place in the JCC F1 Circuit Parking area from 17.00hrs onwards.
Jeddah Rally Toyota 2024 is being organised by the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF) in conjunction with the Ministry of Sport, with official partner Jameel Motorsport and strategic partner Saudi Investment Bank. It is running under the supervision of SAMF President H.R.H. Prince Khalid bin Sultan Al-Abdullah Al-Faisal.
The final entry list will be published on Sunday (December 15th).
The Jeddah Rally ran for the first time in 2014 and was won by Yazeed Al-Rajhi and French co-driver Alex Winocq. The Saudi repeated the feat the following season with German navigator Timo Gottschalk, before Qatar’s Adel Abdulla teamed up with Frenchman Sébastien Delaunay to win outright in a T2 car in 2016.
Al-Rajhi won again in 2022 with Dirk von Zitzewitz in a Toyota Hilux and for a third time with Gottschalk last December, again in an Overdrive Racing Toyota. Victories in the T2, T3 and T4 categories fell to Ahmed Al-Shegawi, Saleh Al-Saif and Maha Al-Hameli in 2022 and to Jafar Al-Qahtani, Al-Saif and Yasir Seaidan last year.
Abdulmajeed Al-Khulaifi (2014 and 2015) and Haitham Al-Tuwaijri (2022 and 2023) are both two-time winners in the quad category, while Emirati Hamdan Al-Ali and local rider Bader Al-Hamdan won the first two events for motorcycles in 2022 and 2023.
