2023 UIM F1H2O WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
H2O RACING PLOTS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE WITH SUPPORT FOR A LOCAL TREE PLANTATION
Friday, December 8: Drivers, team representatives, members of the media and VIP guests joined H2O Racing officials and members of the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club to visit a desert tree plantation in the Sharjah desert on Thursday afternoon.
The sport is keen to map out its own sustainable future in a push for net zero and H2O Racing’s founder Nicoló di San Germano and His Excellency Khalid Jasim Al-Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority and Sharjah International Marine Sports Club and UIM Council member, headed the delegation that planted a number of new saplings in the desert close to Milehah.
The delegation, which included the Sharjah Team’s two-time World Champion Sami Selio, his team-mate Ferdinand Zandbergen, the Victory Team’s Erik Stark and Ahmad Al-Fahim and the F1 Atlantic Team’s Ben Jelf, then visited a second plantation at Al-Mentethr to see the growth of a number of trees that were planted back in 2019. Planting trees is a perfect way for the UIM F1H2O World Championship to offset some of the carbon footprint that the sport creates.
Nicolò di San Germano said: “This is an ongoing project that we have been involved in for several years. Every person has a responsibility to react and contribute to the growing concerns and issues facing the global environment.”
On-water action for the Road to Sharjah-Grand Prix of Sharjah gets underway with a one-hour extra free practice session from 14.00hrs on Friday afternoon.
