MONSTER ENERGY CAN-AM TEAM’S AUSTIN JONES
EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD WITH VICTORY IN KAZAKHSTAN

AKTAU CITY (KAZAKHSTAN): The Monster Energy Can-Am Team’s Austin Jones and Gustavo Gugelmin delivered another stunning performance to seal a second successive victory on a round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.

On this occasion, the American and his Brazilian co-driver managed their pace to perfection to secure a 30min 36sec victory at Rally Kazakhstan, a gruelling five day endurance challenge across brutal desert terrain in the south-west of the world’s largest land-locked country.

Their Can-Am never missed a beat and Jones was able to extend his lead over Kees Koolen in this year’s FIA T4 Championship after claiming victory in southern Spain last month.

The Italian crew of Eugenio Amos and Paolo Ceci finished second and Koolen teamed up with Mirjam Pol to finish third.

A delighted Jones said: “The last day was good. It was a little but tricky with the navigation and we had to go a bit slow to figure out the way. But we had a big lead going into it, so we wanted to be slow and we did what we wanted to do and ended up winning the race. I am very happy with that. We did a strategic race. Now we can aim for three in a row at the Silk Way Rally.”

Monster Can-Am Team principal Scott Abraham said: “This was a dominating performance from Austin Jones and Gustavo Gugelmin, building on the momentum of their victory in Andalucia. They started with a devastating first stage and finished fifth overall amongst some of the top car contenders in cross-country.

“Then, they controlled the race with a very mature and focused approach to take the victory after five long days of racing in Kazakhstan. This is their second back-to-back victory and it gives the Monster Energy Can-Am Team a strong lead in the FIA World Cup running into the next event, the Silk Way Rally.”

Support for the Monster Energy Can-Am Team came from Method Wheels, Tensor Tires, Motul, Jjuan Brake Systems, Bell, Lazer and OMP.
