MONSTER ENERGY CAN-AM TEAM’S DOMŻALA FINISHES
FOURTH AND RUNNER-UP IN FIA T4 CHAMPIONSHIP

HA’IL (SAUDI ARABIA): Monster Energy Can-Am team’s Aron Domżala and navigator Maciej Marton endured a frustrating challenge for honours at Hail Baja 2, the final round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas, in Saudi Arabia.

Needing to beat Dutchman Kees Koolen to guarantee the FIA T4 World Championship title, the Pole suffered electrical problems on the opening selective section of 311.57km. He slipped 25 minutes behind the stage-winning Khalifa Al-Attiyah and second-placed title rival Kees Koolen in their South Racing Can-Ams.

Koolen also collected a provisional bonus point for his second quickest time and, provided that he could finish, he had reduced the gap between the pair to two heading into the final day showdown. Portugal’s Lorenço Rosa came home in third place in his Can-Am.

Koolen was classified fourth on the second stage, but held on to a similar position in the overall classification to snatch the title from Domzala. The stage win fell to Al-Attiyah and Domżala came home in fourth, just 2.5 points behind the Dutchman. The Portuguese crew of Lorenço Rosa and Joaquim Dias finished third overall.

Monster Energy South Racing Can-Am team’s Scott Abraham said: “It was a testing race for the team but a great shakedown for Dakar 2021. The Monster Energy Team continue to develop the new Maverick. We are all looking forward to the start of the Dakar now in Jeddah.”
