OMAN’S AL-ZUBAIR AND AL-WAHAIBI HUNGRY TO BOUNCE BACK WITH
PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPER CUP SUCCESS AT THE HUNGARORING

· Michael Ammermüller maintains slender series lead over Nick Yelloly

MOGYORÓD (HUNGARY): After a dramatic race in Hockenheim last weekend – where a team qualifying error cost Oman’s Al-Faisal Al-Zubair and Khalid Al-Wahaibi dearly – the duo will be hoping to bounce back strongly with top performances at the sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup in Hungary this weekend.

Racing in the premier Porsche racing series comes thick and fast during the summer months and action switches to the 4.381km, 14-turn Hungaroring just seven days after Nick Yelloly claimed the win from pole position in southern Germany.

Al-Zubair of the Lechner Racing Team Middle East enjoyed a good result at the Hungarian circuit last year and is looking forward to the challenge. Al-Wahaibi, on the other hand, will be racing at the high-speed circuit on the outskirts of Budapest for the first time, although he has tested there before.

Defending champion Michael Ammermüller continues to lead the series from last week’s winner Yelloly.

Al-Zubair said: “Last year we finished ninth here. The grid this year is a bit harder and I am not putting an expectation on myself. We will see how it goes.”
Al-Wahaibi added: “The back-to-back weekends is great because you have just been in the car and when you go to Budapest you are ready to start straight away again. I am excited. The test there was not too bad. It should be good. There are a lot of different tyres of corners and it can be very tight. I am looking forward to getting back out and hope to have a better weekend than the last one.”

This was the first circuit to host a race behind the old Iron Curtain in 1986 and has held a Porsche Super Cup support race to the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1993.

Sven Müller set the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup lap record at the circuit with a time of 1min 48.948sec in 2016, while the defending champion Michael Ammermüller claimed pole position and won the race last year.

Drivers take to the circuit for the first time from 17.10hrs for training on Friday afternoon. Qualifying follows from 12.25hrs on Saturday morning and the sixth round of the championship roars into life at 11.35hrs on Sunday.
