OMAN’S AL-ZUBAIR AND AL-WAHAIBI AIM TO KEEP UP RACING MOMENTUM
AS PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPER CUP HEADS TO SILVERSTONE

SILVERSTONE (ENGLAND): Oman’s Al-Faisal Al-Zubair and Khalid Al-Wahaibi head to England this weekend to take part in the fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup at the world famous Silverstone circuit, which is also hosting this weekend’s Formula One British Grand Prix.

The United Kingdom is currently experiencing its longest heat wave since 1976 and, with no respite forecast this weekend, Al-Zubair of the Lechner Racing Team Middle East team can expect dry and sunny conditions for the prestigious one-make racing series’ visit to the 5.891km Northamptonshire circuit.

Al-Wahaibi took part in his first ever round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup last weekend in Austria and the rookie is also relishing the prospect of gaining more experience against a formidable field of Porsche drivers.

Thomas Preining led from pole position to win last weekend’s 18-lap race and that result moved the Austrian up to equal eighth in the points’ standings. Defending champion Michael Ammermüller currently holds a single point lead over Dylan Pereira with Nick Yelloly only three points adrift. Al-Zubair holds 16th in the points’ standings and Oman is 11th in the Nations League.

Al-Zubair said: “I am ready for Silverstone. We had a test there and I really enjoyed it. We were quick there Hopefully we can turn our luck around. We have scored points in most or all of the races but it’s not where we should have been. I think Silverstone will be the place to bounce back and keep the momentum going through the summer.”

Al-Wahaibi added: “I’m looking forward to another round of the Super Cup and back-to-back weekends after Austria. That is really good for me. I cannot wait to get back in the car after only a week and try to learn even more and build upon my experience. We had a test in Silverstone, so I know the track quite well and I am looking forward to seeing how it is with the Formula One group once again. If we can move forward and be faster then I know I have accomplished my mission.”

Drivers will be permitted to carry out training from 17.00hrs on Friday afternoon and the qualifying session is scheduled for 16.15hrs on Saturday afternoon. The race precedes the British Grand Prix at 10.25hrs on Sunday morning.

Norwegian driver Dennis Olsen won on the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup’s visit to the UK circuit in 2017 and he also holds the lap record of 2min 06.635sec.
