MONTE-CARLO CHALLENGE AWAITS OMAN’S AL-ZUBAIR AS
PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPER CUP HEADS TO MONACO

· Germany’s Michael Ammermüller leads after round one in Spain

MONTE-CARLO (MONACO): Magnificent Monaco is the next stop-off point for the 2018 Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup this weekend. Oman’s Al-Faisal Al-Zubair will be hoping to build upon the 13th position he earned at the opening race at the Circuit de Barcelona in Catalunya recently.

The Lechner Racing Team Middle East driver has admitted that the narrow streets of the world famous 3.337km racecourse that thread their way through Monte-Carlo are the most demanding in the entire racing calendar. The defending Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East champion’s cause will not be helped by the strength of the entry list, which features all the big names in world Porsche racing.

Al-Zubair said: “I’m really looking forward to the race in Monaco this weekend. I think it is one of the toughest circuits in the world to race on. It will be harder to secure a good result. Nonetheless, I should be able to push for a top result and I guess the top 10 is the target.

“From practice through to the race, I intend to keep learning. You don’t really get much track time, so every lap you are learning more and more. For that reason, I want to be on track as much as possible. I have prepared for the weekend in the best possible way.”

Defending Super Cup champion Michael Ammermüller led from start-to-finish to seal maximum points at the race opener in Spain. Dutchman Jaap Van Lagen holds second in the points’ standings and Luxembourg’s Dylan Pereira is third. Al-Zubair collected three points for his 13th-placed finish.

Track time is limited in a hectic schedule around the FIA Formula One Monaco Grand Prix and Porsche racers will take to the circuit for the first time at 17.15hrs (CET) for the first free practice session on Thursday afternoon.

Qualifying will be held at 10.00hrs (CET) on Friday morning and the second round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup is scheduled to get underway on Sunday morning at 10.30hrs (CET).
