LOCAL DRIVERS DOMINATE ENTRY FOR TURKEY’S CRUCIAL WRC CANDIDATE EVENT
· 37 cars on entry list for next week’s Marmaris Rally Turkey
MARMARIS (TURKEY): Turkey’s all-important WRC candidate event takes place in the Muğla region on October 20-22 and local teams dominate a 37-car field.
Marmaris Rally Turkey will take its place in the FIA World Rally Championship calendar in September 2018 provided that the candidate event laid on by TOSFED ticks all the right boxes and runs to the FIA’s exacting standards as a round of the FIA European Rally Trophy and the FIA Balkan Rally Trophy.
Castrol Ford Team Turkey’s Murat Bostanci heads a field of eight R5 drivers, one S2000 and a nice mix of Group N Mitsubishi Lancers and R2 cars in the RC2, RC3 and RC4 classes. There are nine additional Ford Fiesta R2s and STs entered under the Ford Motorsport Turkey banner at the rear of the field.
Bostanci wheels out a Ford Fiesta R5 and faces competition from a trio of Toksport-run Skoda Fabia R5s – driven by Orhan Avcioğlu, Uğur Soylu and Mustafa Bulutoğullari – and two additional cars from the Czech stable in the hands of BC Vision Motorsport’s Burak Çukurova and Erkan Güral.
Yağiz Avci drives a Neo Motorspor Peugeot 208 T16 R5, Hakki Ağaoğlu bolsters the RC2 category with his Peugeot 207 S2000 and privateer Deniz Fahri runs a Ford Fiesta R5.
The sole non-Turkish entrants are the Bulgarian crew of Georgi Geradzhiev and Georgi Gadzhev in a privately-entered Ford Fiesta R2.
The competitive action gets underway with two loops of three stages on Saturday (October 21) and a second leg of seven stages follows on Sunday (October 22).
