QATAR’S WALEED MAHMOUD AL-SHARSHANI CLAIMS
DOUBLE POLE POSITION IN QATAR JET SKI RACES

· Caumont on pole in F1 Division; Al-Obaidli tops Runabout Stock

DOHA (Qatar): UAE-based Ludovic Caumont, Qatar’s Waleed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani and Mohammed Jasim Al-Obaidli qualified in pole position in the Ski Stock (F1 Division), Runabout Super Stock and Runabout Stock (beginner class) categories at the third round of the Qatar International Jet Ski Championship at Al-Wakra’s historic port, south of Doha, on Friday. Al-Sharshani also claimed pole position in the Runabout Stock section.

Caumont claimed pole in the Ski Stock F1 Division category with a fastest lap of 1min 50.21sec to comfortably beat the UAE’s Rashid Al-Owaiss by just under 10 seconds. Kuwait’s Abdulwahab Suhail Issa claimed third for Saturday’s race and Waleed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani was the leading Qatari in sixth position.

Al-Sharshani claimed pole position in the Runabout Super Stock category with a lap of 1min 36.68sec to push Kuwait’s Yusef Abdul Razak into second and Qatar’s Rashid Ebrahim Al-Mannai into third. Khamis Sbeit Al-Hosni and Mohamed Abdullah Al-Heidus qualified in fourth and fifth for the host nation. Eleven riders entered the category.

Qatar’s Mohammed Jasim Al-Obaidli qualified on pole in the Runabout Stock beginners’ class with a time of 1min 40.74sec and that was sufficient to beat fellow countryman Majed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani by 1.17 seconds. Kuwait’s Abdulaziz Hamad Al-Omar snatched third and Saudi Arabia’s Hesham Sami Bakhsh was fourth.

Waleed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani claimed his second pole position of the day in the Runabout Stock category, the Qatari setting a lap time of 1min 34.64sec to see off Yusef Abdul Razak for pole. Qatar’s Mohamed Abdullah Al-Heidus qualified in third and Al-Mannai settled into fourth.

Kuwait’s Abdulwahab Suhail Issa was quickest in practice among the four runners in the Ski Stock (F1 Division) category, with Waleed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani and Rashid Al-Owaiss finishing second and third.

Al-Sharshani went one better in the Runabout Stock class and set the fastest practice time with a lap of 1min 40.60sec. Qatari Khamis Sbeit Al-Hosni was second and Rashid Ebrahim Al-Mannai set the third quickest time of the six starters.

Saudi’s Hesham Sami Bakhsh was the practice pacesetter among the six Runabout Stock beginners’ entrants. His best time of 1min 43.94sec eclipsed runner-up Mohammed Jasim Al-Obaidli by over two and a half seconds. Khalid Walid Al-Shaya was third.

Runabout Super Stock attracted entrants and Waleed Mahmoud Al-Sharshani set the quickest lap of 1min 42.38sec. Mohamed Muhsaen Ali was third and Yusuf Abdul Razak was third.

Further practice and the four races will take place at Al-Wakra on Saturday afternoon.
