NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE GETS UNDERWAY NEXT WEDNESDAY
NEWPORT (Shropshire): The 2012-2013 Newport & District Pool League gets underway next Wednesday night (October 31st) with 18 teams set to do battle over 34 league weeks until the finish of the season in July 2013.
Defending champions, NRBL A, start as favourites to lift the title and field an unchanged side under the captaincy of Mick Beech, but the league welcomes a new team from the Barley Mow in Newport and Gnosall’s Horns fields a second team captained by Stafford lothario Dean Smith.
With the closure of the Plough in Woodseaves, this team has now moved to the Haberdashers in Knighton and the Swan Newport has become Shakespeare B. Other team venues remain unchanged, although several squads feature revised line-ups.
All matches in both the league and the Neil Clark Memorial Trophy (League knockout cup) will be played to ‘Old English’ pool rules and regulations remain the same, with the exception that two points will be awarded for a win this season instead of three.
Teams may field a minimum of four players and a maximum of eight per match, with games taking place over four singles and two doubles racks. All matches are to start at approximately 20.30hrs and scores sent by 23.15hrs on the evening of the game to championship coordinator Neil Perkins on 07831 123153.
