CHAMPIONS NRBL A CRUSH RAILWAY TAVERN
NEWPORT (Shropshire): NRBL A continued the form they showed to clinch the Newport & District Pool League title last week with a crushing 6-0 victory over the Railway Tavern.
Colin Pink, Mick Beech, Ant Heathcote and Wayne Dodd secured all three points in the singles racks against Stu Morrey, Jon Auliffe, Adam Stone and Greg Quinn and there was no way back for the visitors from then on.
LSC at the Tav needed all three points against NRBL B to ensure that they stayed on course for second place and they prevailed with a somewhat flattering 5-1 win. Greg Heathcote held his nerve to oust Mick Jones, only for Jack Jones to snooker Andy Miles into an equalising frame.
Liam Matthews broke off against Neil Perkins and then received an emergency call from the fire service and replacement David Haynes ended up playing a losing frame against Neil Perkins. Ian Roberts put the home side within sight of the win in rack four and Heathcote/Perkins and Miles/Roberts won the doubles racks to ensure LSC remain on course for second place.
The King’s Head A kept up the pressure for the runners-up with a 4-2 victory over the Navigation and Junction A drew, 3-3, in the all-Norbury affair with Junction B.
The Wheatsheaf entertained the Shakespeare in a mid-table clash at Chetwynd Aston and the visitors left with all three points. Andy Potter, Dean Smith and Dave Marshall made it 0-3 to the away side against Simon Walley, Al Harvey and Nigel Sandbrook, only for Paul Skitt to beat Ross Richards-Jones and pull a frame back. Honours were shared in the doubles racks, with Smith teaming up with Laura Brennan to seal all three points.
Newport Arms Hotel hosted the Plough at Lower Bar and the Woodseaves outfit came away with all three points. Equestrian rider Vicky Hipkins bade farewell to her league involvement by winning both her singles and doubles racks.
The Sutherland Arms maintained their push for fourth place with a comfortable 5-1 victory over King’s Head B in Tibberton and the Royal Navy Club travelled to the Horns in Gnosall and honours were shared.
Please be reminded that entries for the Danfords Motor Auctions Newport Pool Open, Railway Tavern Newport Ladies Open and Shakespeare Newport Doubles Open close on July 8th and players are requested to fill in forms and leave monies with respective landlords as soon as possible.
The draw will take place at the Railway Tavern at 20.00hrs on July 9th, but people who have not paid their entries will not be included in the draw.
