RUSS WOODHOUSE DISPOSES OF PERRY
AND EDGE TO REACH POOL SEMI-FINALS

NEWPORT (Shropshire): Newport’s Russ Woodhouse prevailed in a marathon third round tie in Carling Newport Pool Open against Ian Perry at the Railway Tavern. Perry missed a golden chance to snatch the first frame and Woodhouse duly mopped up to take the lead. But Perry stamped his authority on frame two to level the match with a superb black pot off the cushion.

Woodhouse was again on top in frame three and Perry looked to be heading for the exit door in frame four before rallying to snatch the frame. The philatelist’s chance of reaching the quarterfinals was finally perforated by a useful Woodhouse clearance in frame five to set up a last eight clash with Stafford’s Will Edge for the Newport player.

There was little to choose between Woodhouse and Edge in their marathon uarterfinal showdown last Sunday afternoon and the match went to a tie-break frame, with Woodhouse jetting off for a holiday in Sharm El Sheikh safe in the knowledge that he had disposed of his Stafford rival and reached the last four for the second time in four years.

Results should be sent by text message to 07831 123153 with the names of both players and the score clearly stated. All outstanding matches should be played by October 3rd.
