NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE PROMOTER PONDERS LEAGUE SPLIT

NEWPORT (Shropshire): The 2011/2012 Newport and District Pool League will start on Wednesday, November 9th and series promoter Neil Perkins needs to make a decision in the next two weeks whether to expand the series to two leagues or maintain the popular one-league, 16-team format.

Would captains of all teams please make contact as soon as possible by phone or text message to 07831 123153 to confirm that they are interested in taking their place in the new league season?

“There has been a lot of interest from new teams and many people would like to see a two-league format, but I need to see that these teams will last the course and not drop out during the season,” said Perkins, who also confirmed that the Swan Newport, Cock Woodseaves, Gnosall Sports Club, Forton Cricket Club, Royal Oak Church Eaton and the Horns Gnosall have all enquired about joining the league.

Matches will again be fought out over six frames – four singles and two doubles – so each team will require a minimum of four players. Matches should start at 20.30hrs on Wednesday evenings, with three points awarded for a win and one for a draw.
