DALE, WHITTINGTON, KEENAN AND DODD GO MARCHING ON
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Defending Riley’s champion Neil Dale, from Stafford, outgunned Warrington-based Chris Broomfield with the loss of one frame in their second round match in the Carling Newport Pool Open.
Newport’s Irene Whittington stunned Whitchurch’s Cyril Evans by a similar 3-1 score line and Wayne Dodd prevailed, 3-1, against Trevor Smith in the Tibberton derby clash. Councillor Ian Perry proved too much for Dave Price in the last of the second round ties.
The shock of the round involved a stunning 3-1 win for the unfancied Ed Keenan against Matt Mansell at the Sutherland Arms in Tibberton.
Andy Potter and Dave Marshall squeezed through in their first round Worthington’s Doubles clash and will now face Andy Miles and Will Dorsett in round two.
Defending champions Colin Pink and Mick Manning joined Stafford’s Will Edge and Chris Broomhall in the last eight after beating Ashley Vaughan and Neil Perkins in a second round match at the NRBL on Tuesday evening. The Newport pair had chances to win both frames one and three, but it was not to be and the North Shropshire duo prevailed.
Results should be sent by text message to 07831 123153 with the names of both players and the score clearly stated. Second round matches should be played by Tuesday, August 30th.
