TELFORD’S KEATON FORD SECURES WELSH JUNIOR KARTING TITLE

· 15-year-old overcomes disappointment of stolen race kart

TELFORD (Shropshire): Twelve months after returning from Wales to discover that his prize racing kart had been stolen, Telford’s Keaton Ford has clinched the 2011 Welsh Junior Karting Championship.

The 15-year-old pupil at Thomas Telford school races in the Junior TKM class and was triumphant at the two-day race meeting at Llandow circuit, near Cardiff, last weekend.

The Ketley-based junior qualified in first position and broke the lap record in the process. Then the youngster went on to win his next four heats and broke his new lap record on two more occasions. Keaton went on to win the final and broke the lap record yet again by four-tenths of a second.

His delighted father Andy confirmed that the youngster now has to wear the C plate on his kart instead of a number to signify that he is the Welsh Champion at every event he enters for the next 12 months.

Keaton won the final by 1.62 seconds from Alex Forward, with Ryan Jones rounding off the top three.

Keaton’s next event will be the AbkC O plate in Cumbria at the end of the month.
