QMSF GEARS UP FOR UIM F1 H20 GRAND PRIX OF
QATAR AND NEW JET SKI GRAND PRIX OF QATAR
· Price and Carella set for pre-season testing this weekend
· Children’s play area, food court and marine trade show planned
DOHA (Qatar): The Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) is working around the clock to finalise arrangements for a hectic two-week period of marine sports in Doha Bay between March 3 and March 12.
The 10 days of racing action will include the Grand Prix of Qatar, round one of the 2011 UIM F1 H20 World Championship, on Saturday, March 5 and the new Jet Ski Grand Prix of Qatar on Saturday, March 12.
Both race programmes will take place in Doha Bay, on the Corniche near the Sheraton Hotel, and the QMSF is currently finalising the spectator zone and on-sight facilities for the ever-growing number of people who support power boat racing and marine sports in Qatar, run by the QMSF under the presidency of His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani.
Khalid Bin Arhama Al-Kuwari, head of formula racing at the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF), also confirmed that Jay Price and new Qatar Team signing Alex Carella will test their DAC boats for the first time at a pre-UIM F1 H20 season shakedown this weekend, with the exact timings dependant on weather conditions.
“Both Jay and Alex will use the DAC boat this year,” said Al-Kuwari. “We have a planned test session and full pre-season shakedown this weekend and will start with the same set-up we used at the end of last season and try to come up with a package that will ensure that Jay and Alex are competitive from the start of the year.”
“We are planning a large children’s play area near the pit areas, as we did for the H1 Unlimited and F1 races in November,” said QMSF organiser Mona Nasser. “Admittance will be free of charge to all families for the F1 on March 4-5 and for the jet-ski races on March 10-12.
Mona Nasser also confirmed that there would be four marine shops taking part in a trade show during both race meetings, with Performance Marine, Speed Marine, Yamaha and Al-Dhaeen Boats exhibiting during the course of the 10-day period.
“The entire area will be open to the general public during the race weekends,” added Nasser. “We will also have a food court next to the grand stand with Pizza Inn, Costa Coffee, Ka’akat and Johnny Rockets providing refreshments during the racing.”
