KING’S HEAD CRUSH LSC TO EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Mick Collins’s King’s Head side made light work of beating the previously-unbeaten LSC at the Tav to extend their unbeaten run at the top of the Newport & District Pool League after the two-week Christmas break.
LSC at the TSV were responsible for their own downfall. Graham Tigwell got the better of Ian Roberts in frame one, only for Greg Heathcote to level the match for the visitors with a win over Irene Whittington. Ian Perry edged a tight encounter against Ben Longstaff and Mick Collins made it 3-1 to the home side in a frame against Dave Price that he could so easily have tied up in next to no time.
Perry and Phil Emery clinched all three points for the Chetwynd End side in the first of the doubles racks and, despite a positive opening by Andy Miles and Will Dorsett in the final frame, Tigwell and Collins completed the rout.
NRBL, the defending league champions, continued their run of suspect form and were held to a 3-3 draw by Hyla Marklew’s Junction A side at Norbury. The Shakespeare A are now playing their home games from the Honeysuckle, but the change of venue did little to alter their fortunes and they lost 5-1 to a buoyant Sutherland Arms side.
The Navy Club crashed to a 2-4 home defeat to the Wheatsheaf B and Steve Whitlock’s Navigation side dusted off the Christmas cobwebs with a 5-1 victory over Junction B. The Wheatsheaf A continued their run of miserable form and crashed to a 5-1 home defeat to the Plough at Woodseaves.
The Navigation at Gnosall, Railway Tavern and Junction B are requested to rearrange their matches against LSC at the Tav, Junction A and the Wheatsheaf B within the next 10 days. All three games were postponed during the pre-Christmas cold snap.
