INCLEMENT WEATHER WIPES OUT NEWPORT POOL FIXTURES
NEWPORT (Shropshire): On a night when inclement weather ruined week four fixtures in the 2010/2011 Newport & District Pool League season, NRBL managed to sneak into the league lead on frame difference with a 3-3 draw against a plucky Shakespeare C side.
It should have been all over for the home team after three frames with victories for Antony Heathcote, Luke Hayward and Mick Beech. But the Shakespeare C fought back through Ben Clewes, Ade Darell and colleagues to seal a massive draw.
Dave Marshall was in inspired potting form to force the Wheatsheaf A into surrender at Chetwynd Aston, but the ‘Sheaf calmed their nerves to lead the lager brigade into the point of no return. The home side stayed in contention but the visitors sealed a stunning draw. “We are back,” said Wheatsheaf spokesman Paul Skitt.
Hazel-Ford Lewis, Kim Rigby and Hannah Evans were on fire to dismiss the King’s Head B at Chetwynd End. The sides were well matched until Evans’s and Ford-Lewis’s talent swung the pendulum in the Shakespeare’s favour.
Honours were shared in the top of the table clash between the Sutherland Arms at Tibberton and the King’s Head A.
Lilleshall Sports Centre have changed names to ‘LSC at the Tavern’ and switched their home matches to the Railway Tavern in Newport with immediate effect. But the match against the Navigation fell victim to the extreme weather after Gnosall skipper Steve Whitlock requested a delay.
The matches between Wheatsheaf B and Junction B and Junction A and the Railway Tavern were also postponed because of the snow.
Please remember to send results by text message as soon as possible after the match on Wednesday evenings to 07831 123153. Postponed matches must be replayed with two weeks of the original fixture.
