TEAM QATAR’S JAY PRICE CARRIES OUT PRE-SEASON TEST IN DOHA BAY
· QMSF upbeat about winning back UIM F1 World Championship title
DOHA (Qatar): Team Qatar’s 2008 UIM F1 World Champion, Jay Price, has just completed a useful test and development session with the Qatar Marine Sport Federation’s (QMSF) F1 team in Doha Bay.
Price was the fastest driver on the entire F1 circuit last season, but several disappointing mechanical failures cost the Doha-based team dearly at crucial times and Price was unable to retain the title he won for the first time in 2008. Management at the QMSF decided to carry out a pre-season test day in Doha, well in advance of the opening two rounds of the 2010 season in Portugal at the start of May. The boat also sported the new Team Qatar livery for the 2010 campaign.
“Part of the F1 team met in Doha to finalise some pre-season testing on various new technical components,” said Khalid Bin Arhama Al-Kuwari, Head of Formula Racing at the Qatar Marine Sports Federation, which is run under the presidency of His Excellency Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani.
“The testing and preparation leading up to the testing allowed us to refine a lot of the systems we would not normally have time to work on during a race weekend. Whilst the component testing was not a complete success, we learned a lot from the testing and we will all take that knowledge and experience with us to Portugal so that we can get the campaign to win back the world title off to a perfect start.
“The day also allowed Jay to spend some time in the boat and allowed part of the team to ensure that we had all the necessary equipment on hand ready for Portugal. It was a shame that the test took place in windy conditions and we couldn’t do much on the water. We wanted to make sure that there was no damage on the boat.”
Price will team up with British racer Andy Elliott in Team Qatar this season, in what looks on paper to be one of the strongest team line-ups in the entire championship. Team Qatar will also be hoping to win the UIM F1 Teams’ Championship and the UIM F1 Pole Position Championship, when competitive action gets underway in Portugal on May 8-9th.
