BOYS BEAT THE GIRLS IN KING’S HEAD POOL TROUNCING

NEWPORT (Shropshire): The King’s Head A leapt to fourth place in the 2009/2010 Newport & District Pool League after trouncing the King’s Head B at Chetwynd End.

Jamie James got the better of Lucy Hennessey in frame one and last year’s cup runners-up never looked back from then on. Ian Perry beat Louise Anyon to make it 2-0, Mick Collins got on top of Tash Pugh to make it three and Rob Patterson confirmed the three points by beating Chris Perry. Phil Emery joined the A team’s party in the doubles to seal the rout.

NRBL remained on top of the league on frame difference after demolishing the Shakespeare A. Colin Farge set the home side on their way against Richard Young and Paul Trevor made it 2-0. Hinstock’s Colin Pink braved the foul weather to get the better of Dan Brennan and an injured Mick Beech stunned Andy Potter by beating the Shakespeare stalwart with just one hand to seal the win for the table-toppers.

Farge and Beech fed off the first four frames to win their doubles rack against Brennan and his wife Laura and Trevor and Pink completed the whitewash in the final frame.

Both the Swan and the Sutherland Arms kept the heat on the RRBL at the top of the league. The Tibberton village side got the better of Ben Clewes and the Railway Tavern to take all three points and the Swan also overcame a stubborn Wheatsheaf side to win by the odd frame.

In the final match of the night Audco trounced Shakespeare B at Upper Bar. Ross Richards-Jones, Owen Meredith, Richard Anthony and Matt Tonks did the damage in the singles and Hannah Evans, Kim Rigby, Sam Frost and Hazel Ford-Lewis could not redress the balance in the doubles. All six frames and three points duly went to the Audco, who move up to sixth in the league.

The weather claimed the match between Lilleshall Sports Centre and the Navigation, on a night where LSC had been hoping to give debut games to new signings Ian Roberts and Matt Hestor. The Navy Club’s visit to the Junction at Norbury and the Junction A’s trip to the New Inn were also postponed

All match forms are to be delivered to the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to Neil Perkins on 07831 123153. Annual pool fees of £30 are now due and should be left in a clearly marked envelope with staff at the Railway Tavern.
