WINTER CHEER FOR SUTHERLAND ARMS
NEWPORT (Shropshire): The Sutherland Arms at Tibberton braved the foul weather to trounce Shakespeare A, 5-1, and move into a joint lead in the 2009/2010 Newport & District Pool League.
The Swan benefited from the postponement of four matches to move into third place in the league after winning all but one frame against the Navy Club at Bellman’s Yard.
Lilleshall Sports Centre rode their luck to surge into a 3-0 lead at the King’s Head. David Price came back from the dead to snatch the opening frame from Phil Emery, Neil Perkins pounced on Ian Perry’s misfortune to make it 2-0 and Ben Longstaff won a farcical third game to give the visitors at least a point at Chetwynd End.
But Mick Collins won a rapid-fire frame against Greg Heathcote to give the home side hope of a point and the King’s Head won two tight doubles racks to clinch a point and ensure that LSC remain winless at the foot of the table.
In the final match of the night, the Wheatsheaf managed to overcome the King’s Head B and seal the precious three points.
NRBL’s visit to the Junction was postponed because of the adverse weather conditions around the Norbury venue. The New Inn’s visit to the Navigation was also postponed and illness forced the Shakespeare B to postpone their visit to the Railway Tavern, but all three games must be rearranged as soon as possible.
Junction B will also need to rearrange their match against league newcomers Audco as soon as possible. A fixture mix-up determined that the game was not played.
All match forms are to be delivered to the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to Neil Perkins on 07831 123153. Annual pool fees of £30 are now due and should be left in a clearly marked envelope with staff at the Railway Tavern.
