2024 UIM F1H2O WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ITINERARY ANNOUNCED FOR FOURTH ROUND OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN SHANGHAI
Wednesday, August 28: H2O Racing has announced the itinerary for the Grand Prix of Shanghai China, round four of the UIM F1H2O World Championship, which takes place on the mighty Huangpu River on October 4th-6th.
Shanghai is one of the most dynamic cities in the world and the largest financial and innovation hub in the People’s Republic of China. Located on the shoreline of the southern estuary of the Yangtse River with the man-made Huangpu tributary of the Yangtse flowing through it, the city has in excess of 24 million inhabitants. The Port of Shanghai is also the largest container hub in the world.
Eighteen drivers from nine teams are expected to tackle the Chinese round of the series after the country made its return to the calendar in Zhengzhou last season after a four-year absence.
The racing will take place on a challenging circuit in the Baoshan district at the mouth of the Huangpu that separates the Pudong and Puxi sides of the city. The circuit will also feature the spectacular backdrop of the high-rise Shanghai skyline and its futuristic architecture that includes the renowned 632-metre Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl Tower.
Baoshan District is situated in the north of the city, lies adjacent to Taicang City in Jiangsu Province and has a population of 2.27 million. It focuses on cruise tourism from the nearby Wusong International Cruise Port and also concentrates on lowering its carbon footprint through green and low carbon policies. It specialises in robotic and intelligent manufacturing principles at its Shanghai Industrial Park of Robotics, while the new Nanda Smart City is also under construction on both sides of the Huangpu River.
Registration and technical scrutineering will take centre stage on Thursday (October 3rd) and then a pair of one-hour extra free practice sessions will be permitted on Friday morning from 11.00hrs (GMT +8). A third free practice stint will keep the crowds entertained on Friday afternoon from 15.00hrs.
A hectic Saturday gets underway with the traditional qualifying sessions from 09.00hrs on Saturday morning and those qualifying positions will determine the line-ups for the pair of 20-minute Sprint races, starting at 15.10hrs and 15.40hrs, respectively.
Drivers will be permitted a final warm-up to shake down their race craft on Sunday morning before the Grand Prix of Shanghai China takes centre stage from noon.
The race in the world’s third largest city is being organised in collaboration with Tianrong Sports, Baoshan Shanghai and the City of Shanghai.
