SHANGHAI TO HOST FOURTH ROUND OF UIM F1H2O WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT START OF OCTOBER
Tuesday, July 9: H2O Racing has confirmed that the Chinese city of Shanghai will host round four of this year’s UIM F1H2O World Championship on October 4th-6th.
A return to Shanghai is another major boost for the world’s premier powerboating series. The race will take place on a challenging circuit in the Baoyang district at the mouth of the mighty Huangpu River, which separates the Pudong and Puxi sides of the country’s largest city.
The iconic Chinese location playing host to a round of the World Championship is a major boost for the series with the giant cosmopolitan hub on the central coast set to welcome the sport back after 20 years. The circuit will feature the spectacular backdrop of the world famous global financial hub and its futuristic skyline that includes the renowned 632-metre Shanghai Tower and the Oriental Pearl Tower.
The race in the world’s third largest city is being organised in collaboration with Tianrong Sports, Baoshan Shanghai and the City of Shanghai.
The Asian powerhouse returned to hosting a round of the series last year for the first time since 2019 when drivers tackled a race course on the Yellow River in Zhengzhou. Defending two-time World Champion Jonas Andersson claimed victory from Shaun Torrente and Ferdinand Zandbergen.
Four-time World Champion Scott Gillman won the last race to be staged in Shanghai, the American beating long-time rival Guido Cappellini to the 20 points for the Grand Prix win. Francesco Cantando rounded off the podium places.
Fast forward 20 years and both Gillman and Cappellini are now running two of the top teams in the World Championship and Gillman’s Sharjah Team outfit is currently tied with Team Vietnam in the F1H2O Teams’ Championship.
