RACERS CARRY OUT FINAL CHECKS IN SUNDAY MORNING’S WARM-UP SESSION
Sunday, March 31: Several racers used the morning’s warm-up session to make final checks and shakedown their boats before the inaugural 35-lap Grand Prix of Bình Định-Vietnam takes centre stage on Thi Nai Bay in Quy Nhơn later on Sunday morning.
The China CTIC Team’s Peter Morin was out early and bushy-tailed onto the water and carded a lap of 45.346sec. Seventeen of the 18 drivers took to the course during the stint to practice starts, finalise propeller choices and make sure their boats were running smoothly. Defending World Champion Jonas Andersson did not take to the water.
Marit Strømøy gained further experience of the four-stroke V8 and ran for 28 laps, her best run of 45.759sec putting the Norwegian fifth in the morning’s rankings.
Maverick Racing’s Alexandre Bourgeot crashed just after half of the session had taken place and was towed back to the pontoon in a stint where Morin eventually topped the times with a 44.378sec lap from Team Abu Dhabi’s Rashed Al-Qemzi and Thani Al-Qamzi.
