ENGEL RE-JOINS STOLZ AND SCHILLER TO DRIVE AL-MANAR RACING BY GETSPEED’S MERCEDES AMG-GT3 AT THE NÜRBURGRING

NÜRBURGRING (GERMANY): The Al-Manar Racing by Getspeed Mercedes AMG-GT3 returns to action for the three-hour round of the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS Endurance Cup at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring this weekend.

Maro Engel is back in the driver line-up to replace Lucas Auer alongside Luca Stolz, and Fabian Schiller in an all-German team that faces formidable competition in the Pro Cup category.

After a somewhat disappointing outing at the recent CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, the German trio will be hoping to bounce back strongly on their home round of the series that has attracted a 54-car field across the various classes and the largest grid since 2015.

The 5.1km circuit in the Eifel Mountains returns to the calendar for the eighth time after a one-year absence to host the penultimate endurance race of the Fanatec GT World Challenge season.

Rowe Racing’s Philipp Eng, Marco Wittmann and Nick Yelloly currently top the standings in their BMW M4 after their victory at Monza, third place at Paul Ricard and success at Spa.

While Engel, Stolz and Schiller will be pushing hard to prevent their rivals from claiming a third win of the campaign, defending champions Akkodis ASP will be challenging hard with a driver line-up of lap record holder Raffaele Marciello, Jules Gounon and Timur Boguslavskiy trailing the Rowe Racing BMW by just eight points after their win in France and second place in Belgium.

Additional strong driver line-ups representing Ferrari, Lamborghini Audi, Mercedes, BMW and Porsche complete the impressive 17-car Pro Cup entry.

The German round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge powered by AWS Endurance Cup shares the circuit with the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, Clio Cup Series and McLaren Trophy Europe this weekend.

Private test sessions have been authorised on Friday (July 28th), before competitors will be permitted a 90-minute free practice session from 08.30hrs on Saturday (July 29th). A 90-minute pre-qualifying stint, starting at 12.25hrs, wraps up the day’s action.

Three 15-minute qualifying sessions take place on Sunday (July 30th) from 08.45hrs and the combined stints will determine the starting grid for the three-hour fourth round of the AWS Endurance Cup, starting at 14.45hrs.
