KUWAIT CITY (KUWAIT): The inaugural Kuwait Track Challenge (KTC) gets underway at Kuwait Motor Town this weekend (November 4th-5th).
The first event of its kind to be held in the State of Kuwait has attracted a 38-car field with drivers from Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates chasing generous cash prizes across the three Pocket Rocket, Sleeper and Outlaw race categories.
Sixteen drivers have entered the Pocket Rocket section for cars with tyres below a 245 profile and slicks being prohibited. Popular cars in this category include the Audi TT, Honda S2000, Volkswagen GTi, Toyota GR Yaris and BMW M2.
Registered Kuwaiti drivers include Ahmad Al-Kanderi, Mohammed Al-Hassawi, Ali Al-Ibrahim and Ahmed Al-Mudhaf. Saudi Arabia is represented in this class by Almohanned Al-Sharif (Audi RS3) and Abdulaziz Al-Fudhaili (Alfa Romeo 4C).
Emirati driver Salem Al-Shamsi is also entered in the Pocket Rocket category with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, alongside Bahrain’s Ali Al-Mansouri (Volkswagen Golf GTi).
Eleven drivers of cars with tyres with a profile of less than 285 (no slicks) are eligible for the Sleeper category. Kuwaiti entrants include Abdulrahman Zainal (BMW M2), Khaled Al-Nasser (Porsche GT4), Mohammed Al-Sabah (BMW M3), Fahad Al-Fulaij (Toyota Supra) and Hesham Ali (Lotus Exige).
The Outlaw category is open to all tyre sizes, including slicks, and has attracted nine entries from Kuwait and two from Saudi Arabia.
They include Abdulhameed Ali and Mohammed Al-Sayer in a pair of Porsche GT3 RSs, Ahmed Al-Sheehab (Porsche GT2 RS) and Saudi drivers Fehar Al-Shareef and Jean Lahoud in two Porsche GT2 RSs.
Scrutineering of the competitive vehicles takes place today (Thursday) at Kuwait Motor Town, before the various qualifying heats in the different categories are staged on Friday and Saturday, culminating in a final showdown in each section.
