PORTUGAL’S MIGUEL BARBOSA JOINS FORCES
WITH OVERDRIVE RACING FOR BAJA PORTALEGRE
VILLERS-DE-BOUILLET (BELGIUM) – Friday, September 27: Portugal’s Miguel Barbosa will join Overdrive Racing to tackle Baja Portalegre 500, the final round of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas, on October 24th-26th.
One of Portugal’s most talented rally drivers has agreed to drive one of the latest specification Toyota Hiluxes on the three-day finale to the Baja series with navigator Pedro Velosa.
Barbosa, 41, has tackled several events in the Portuguese Rally Championship this season and finished third overall in Rali de Castelo Branco, Rally de Mórtagua and Rali Seras de Fafe.
Barbosa is no stranger to off-road rallying either. He won Baja Portalegre in 2002 and 2003 with Miguel Ramalho and with navigator Luis Ramalho in 2007 and is relishing the challenge of trying to win the event for the first time in a V8-engined Toyota.
Overdrive Racing’s Jean-Marc Fortin said: “We are very happy to welcome Miguel Barbosa, one of the top drivers in Portugal, to Overdrive Racing for the Baja Portalegre. He will use the latest evolution car straight from Morocco. Our target is to have the highest place on the podium. I am very happy. It is a long time since we had a collaboration with a driver from Portugal.”
The event is being organised by the Autómovel Club de Portugal and gets underway in the town of Portalegre on Thursday, October 24th.
The competitive action takes place over a super special of 5.35km and a selective section of 99.22km on Friday, October 25th before competitors tackle further timed off-road tests of 191.75km and 211.78km on Saturday, October 26th.
