OMAN’S AL-ZUBAIR ANNOUNCES
PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPER CUP PLANS IN MUSCAT

MUSCAT (OMAN): Al-Faisal Al-Zubair announced his plans to take part in the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup for a third successive season at a press reception at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Muscat on Sunday (April 21st).

The press conference was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Sa’ad bin Mohammed bin Said Al-Mardhouf Al-Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs. The press reception was attended by high-profile invitees and members of the media from the Sultanate of Oman and other GCC states.
The Lechner Racing Team Middle East driver will head to the season’s opening race in Barcelona on May 11/12 fresh from retaining his Porsche BWT GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East for a second season at the recent finale in Bahrain.

He managed to win the title with races to spare after another successful winter campaign of 16 races in Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The second title success made the Omani the first driver ever to win the series on two consecutive occasions.

The prestigious Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup is held as a support series to the rounds of the FIA Formula One World Championship in Europe and Mexico and will see the ever-improving Omani racer lock horns once again with the likes of team-mate and champion Michael Ammermüller of Germany and many other esteemed rivals, including Nick Yelloly, Thomas Preining, Jaap van Lagen and Larry ten Voorde.

Al-Zubair will compete in the premier Porsche racing series with Walter Lechner Racing’s official team sponsored by BWT, an Austrian water treatment company. The team dominated the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup in 2018, courtesy of Ammermüller and Preining.

Walter Lechner said: “I believe that Al-Faisal going into his third year of Super Cup is a great move. This way he will really perfect his driving from all aspects. The Super Cup is the toughest GT championship around the world and Al-Faisal entering as a two-time local champion means he will be able to improve and refine his driving skills. This will take his through his career.”

This year’s series will feature 10 rounds as support races to the F1 Grand Prix in Spain, Monaco, Austria, England, Germany, Hungary, Belgium and Italy and the season finale and double-header in Mexico.

Walter Lechner, meanwhile, recently received a special honour at the Leonidas Sportgala – which was organised by the Austrian newspaper Salzberger Nachrichten – for his lifetime achievements in motor racing.
