MONSTER ENERGY CAN-AM TEAM FINISH SECOND,
THIRD AND FOURTH IN GRUELLING DAKAR RALLY

· Casey Currie wins Rookie category for Monster Energy Can-Am Team

LIMA (PERU): The recently formed Monster Energy Can-Am Team enjoyed a terrific debut at the gruelling Dakar Rally by finishing second, third and fourth overall in the competitive Side-by-Side (SxS) category.

After a pulsating 10 days of competition through the punishing dunes of southern Peru, two of the three Monster Energy Can-Am teams took their turn to lead the event outright.

The Spanish duo of Gerard Farres Guell and Daniel Carreras claimed a stage win and led the event outright after stage six. They reached the finish in Lima in a fine second overall in the first of the Monster Energy Maverick X3s.

The Brazilian defending champions, Reinaldo Varela and Gustavo Gugelmin, won the final two stages and led for three days during the gruelling dune crossings, but one costly delay was expensive and Varela reached the finish in third place in the second of the Monster Energy Can-Ams.

American racer Casey Currie won the Rookie category and finished fourth overall with his Spanish co-driver Rafael Tornabell in his Monster Energy Can-Am.

A delighted Scott Abraham of the Monster Energy Can-Am Team, said: “To finish second, third and fourth during our first association with Monster Energy is a great platform for everyone to move forward. This is a great start for the team. Some mistakes cost us dearly on some stages. But our drivers had the pace to win the majority of the stages.

“Now I am looking forward to the next race for the team, which will be the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in April. We will come back with a few updates on the cars and look to be stronger in the first FIA race with the Mavericks.”
