OMAN’S AL-ZUBAIR LOOKS FOR FURTHER
PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPER CUP SUCCESS AT MONZA

· Thomas Preining aims for third successive Porsche win in Italy

MONZA (ITALY): Several days after finishing in the points at the seventh round of the 2018 Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup in Belgium, Oman’s Al-Faisal Al-Zubair heads south to the famous Italian Autodromo Nazionale Monza circuit for the eighth and final European round of the prestigious one-make racing series.

The Lechner Racing Team Middle East driver finished 14th and scored points for 13th at the Spa-Francorchamps track last Sunday and is keen to continue that momentum in Italy this weekend.

Thomas Preining has won the last two rounds of the series in Hungary and Belgium and leapt into contention for the title after a slow start. Defending champion Michael Ammermüller saw his series lead over Nick Yelloly reduced to just two points, despite finishing seventh in Belgium.

Al-Zubair, who finished 12th at Monza in 2017 and 10th in the points, said: “I’m very excited for Monza. I’ve been able to relax for a couple of days between Spa and the Monza race. Monza is a track I really like and we had a good result last year. I think we should look forward to it and to getting another good result.”

Australia’s Matt Campbell led from pole position to win the Monza round of the Porsche series in 2017. Kuwait’s Zaid Ashkanani held off Mattia Drudi to claim second position and Dennis Olsen secured the rookie title with fifth.

Drudi also holds the Porsche lap record for the circuit with a tour of 1min 51.119sec set on September 3rd last year. The series has held a race at the famous venue since 1998.

Drivers will be permitted on to the 5.793km circuit for the first time for training from 17.45hrs on Friday afternoon (August 31).

The 30-minute qualifying session takes centre stage at 12.25hrs on Saturday and the last of the European rounds of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup starts at 11.10hrs on Sunday morning.
