HUNGARIAN BAJA CHALLENGE AWAITS NISSAN’S ADEL HUSSEIN
AS HE BIDS TO SECURE FIA T2 CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD
· QMMF-backed star holds second place in FIA T2 standings after five rounds
VESZPRÉM (HUNGARY): Qatar’s Adel Hussein Abdulla is currently in the Hungarian city of Veszprêm preparing for this weekend’s Hungarian Baja, round six of the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies.
The Qatari is running a Nissan Patrol with support from Nissan Middle East and the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) on the three-day event that starts on Friday. He currently trails the leader of the prestigious FIA T2 World Championship for Series Production Cross-Country vehicles by just two points heading into an event where the winner can collect 25 valuable championship points.
“I am ready for the Hungarian Baja and have a different strategy for this race now that I have narrowed the gap at the top of the championship standings to just two points,” said the Doha-based driver, who will be partnered in Hungary by French navigator Jean-Michel Polato.
“My aim is to win T2 and I really think I can achieve this goal with the Nissan Patrol. The Nissan is becoming the car of choice in T2 and will suit the type of stages we face in Hungary perfectly.
“My team TOK Sport is ready for the second half of the season. I am very happy with the way everything has gone so far and now need to continue this form into the remaining races of the season. After testing we have made some slight improvements to the car as well and they will boost my confidence still further.”
Adel Hussein has 109 points after five rounds of the FIA World Cup and finds himself a massive 52 points clear of third-placed Pole Jaroslaw Kazberuk in the points’ standings.
The Hungarian Baja has attracted an entry that consists of 30 cars, five trucks, and 36 bikes and quads and is being organised by the Garzone Racing Organisation.
It is based at BudaWest Airport, at Szentkirályszabadja near Veszprém, and gets underway with the ceremonial start in the Old Town Square and a timed super special stage of 10.31km, starting at 18.05hrs (local time) on Friday evening (August 12). The city is hosting the event for the eighth time.
Two selective sections of 170.24km are planned for Saturday from 08.30hrs and 13.30hrs, respectively, and a fourth competitive section of 170.72km brings the action to a close on Sunday morning, starting at 09.30hrs. In a total route of 675.06km, race officials are planning 521.51km against the clock.
