SPORTTRAXX ANNOUNCES GROUNDBREAKING NEW TECHNICAL AGREEMENT TO ENHANCE MOTOR SPORT TRACKING AND TIMING
· Italian company Sporttraxx joins forces with UK-based company YB Tracking
· New and improved technology to share GSM and Iridium satellite technology
TRENTO (ITALY): Sporttraxx, the Italian-based motor sport timing and tracking company, has announced a groundbreaking technical agreement to provide a new state-of-the-art timing and GPS tracking system for world motor sport.
The agreement was reached between Sporttraxx’s managing director Wolfgang Schindele and Nick Farrell and Drew Jackson of YB Tracking, based in Southampton in England, to enable Sporttraxx to offer the most efficient, reliable and cost effective technology for GPS tracking and timing for FIA and FIM off-road motor sport events.
YB Tracking is the world’s leading GPS tracking company that supplies technology and equipment to the world’s most important international sailing events across five continents. Its technology is based around the use of the Iridium satellite network.
The agreement will enable Sporttraxx to utilise a hand held YB tracker for motorcycles and quads and a YB electronic Iridium module, which will be embedded in existing Sporttraxx hardware. This will facilitate blanket tracking coverage across the globe and, more specifically, where the existing GSM system is showing black spots and signal weakness.
By merging the GSM and Iridium technology provided by both companies, competitor safety, efficiency and accuracy will be vastly enhanced along the entire route of a specific event, however remote the location and regardless of whether the route crosses desert or mountain terrain.
“This agreement will enable us to provide the most powerful solution for tracking and timing across the board in motor sport,” enthused Wolfgang Schindele, who established the Trento-based company 12 years ago that has become one of the most important suppliers to motor sport in Europe and the Middle East.
“Events in the FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Rallies have already expressed an interest to adapt and use the new technology and it has attracted interest in both the UK and Ireland. I would also hope that the FIA World Rally Championship would give this system consideration in the near future. The new agreement will enable us to offer a combined availability of up to 1,300 units with several levels of customisation.”
Schindele is keen to reiterate that the new hardware has lost none of its user-friendliness and ease of installation, while costs will be competitive. Additional technical options available include car-to-car transmission, 1/10 of a second loggers and over-speeding alerts. Sporttraxx’s results service will also be able to take advantage of the additional Iridium coverage to allow live timing and data transmission from the remotest of locations.
