STRONG WINDS FORCE POSTPONEMENT
OF DAY’S CLASS 1 ACTION IN DUBAI

· Edox Pole to precede Emirates-Dubai Duty Free race on Friday

DUBAI (UAE): The Spirit of Qatar Team will need to wait until Friday morning to begin their challenge for honours in the Dubai Grand Prix, after race officials were forced to postpone Thursday’s racing action because of strong winds and dangerous sea conditions.

His Excellency Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, throttleman Steve Curtis and Ali Al-Neama and Matteo Nicolini were hoping to take to the water for a practice session and the Edox Pole Position on Thursday afternoon, but both have now been rescheduled into an action-packed Friday.

UIM Commissioner Gordon Sutherland announced the decision at the morning briefing after Class 1 operations’ director Per Carsten Michelsen, safety officer Asmud Ness and drivers’ representative Mohammed Al-Marri had inspected the course off the coast of the DIMC.

The outer part of the course was experiencing waves of up to two and three metres, making it impossible for the safety and rescue boats to operate effectively.

Friday’s action now gets underway with an extended practice session from 08.00hrs (Doha time) and this will be followed by Edox Pole Position at 09.45hrs and the Emirates Dubai Duty Free Grand Prix, as originally scheduled, at 14.30hrs.
