NRBL A TO MEET KING'S HEAD A IN NEIL CLARK MEMORIAL FINAL
NEWPORT (Shropshire): NRBL A will meet the defending league champions King’s Head A in the final of the Neil Clark Memorial Trophy at the Royal Navy Club on Wednesday, May 30th.
The league leaders emerged victorious from their semi-final encounter with the NRBL B to book their place in the final. The losers will take part in a third-place play-off against the Wheatsheaf the same evening. They were beaten 5-1 by the King's Head at Newport Legion.
Jason Taphouse got the favourites (NRBL A) off to a good start against Luke Jones, but Mike Jones levelled the match by beating Wayne Dodd. Ant Heathcote seven-balled Jack Jones to make it 2-1 and Colin Pink cruised past Liam Matthews to put the A team on course for victory. Beech joined up with Pink in rack five to beat Tom Sayce and Mike Jones and seal the match, 4-1.
There were two rearranged league matches on Wednesday evening. LSC at the Tavern reduced NRBL A’s league lead to two points with a 4-2 victory over the Royal Navy Club, although the league leaders do have a game in hand.
Greg Heathcote set LSC on their way against Dennis Holland in a close frame, but the Tavern-based side never make life easy for themselves and Gerry Nunn slapped egg on Ian Roberts’s face after snookering the former pub landlord into submission. Andy Miles stuttered past Norman Riley to make it 2-1 and Ben Longstaff made it 3-1 against Alan Pritchett in another tight frame.
Longstaff and Heathcote beat Nunn and Holland to seal the win for the home side, but Miles and Roberts were humbled by Riley and Pritchett in frame six after Pritchett made a superb black pot to conclude a close match.
The Shakespeare hosted the Railway Tavern next door and ran out comfortable 5-1 winners. Andy Potter and Dave Marshall gave the ‘Shake a good start against Stu Morrey and Dave Bristow and Dean Smith joined the bonanza to beat Adam Stone to make it 3-0. Ben Holmes reduced Gregg Quinn to tears in frame four and the ‘Shake won one of the doubles racks to seal the rout.
The Neil Clark Memorial Trophy final and third-place play-off will take place at the Royal Navy Club on Wednesday, May 30th.
