NEW INN CRUSH NAVIGATION IN 6-0 POOL ROUT

NEWPORT (Shropshire): The New Inn stunned the once high-flying Navigation at Gnosall during week 23 fixtures of the Newport & District Pool League

The Stafford Street side didn’t drop a single frame in a 6-0 rout of the Neil Clark Trophy’s beaten semi-finalists, with Graham Parkinson, Rich Talbot, Luke Jones and skipper Mick Andrews doing the damage in the singles racks.

Draws were the order of the day in several of the matches on Wednesday night. The titanic clash between the Sutherland Arms at Tibberton and the Shakespeare A for second place ended all square and the Audco at the Shake also managed a 3-3 draw at the Junction B in Norbury.

Lilleshall Sports Centre were kicking themselves for letting a possible win slip away against the inconsistent King’s Head A. Mick Collins seven-balled a lacklustre David Price to set the away side on their way, but Neil Perkins forced a useful clearance against Ian Perry to level the match.

Ben Longstaff edged the third rack to give the home side the lead, but Graham Tigwell squeezed past Ian Roberts to make it 2-2. A useful Longstaff clearance set LSC on their way to three vital points in rack five, but Roberts went in-off at a crucial time in the final rack and Tigwell held his nerve to seal the draw after Marcus Thomas had put the home side in a good position.

The high-spirited Wheatsheaf team came from 2-1 down to seal a 4-2 victory over the plucky King’s Head B at Chetwynd End and Ben Clewes’s raucous Railway Tavern managed to snatch a 4-2 victory from the jaws of defeat against Kim Rigby’s Shakespeare B.

The league-leading NRBL extended their advantage to 10 points after beating the Junction A, 5-1. Mick Beech, Colin Pink, Paul Trevor and Anthony Heathcote did the damage in the singles racks. Trevor and Pink added to the home side’s tally in the doubles, but Beech and Heathcote let a frame slip in the second doubles’ frame.

The result of the match between the Swan and the Navy Club was not available as we closed for press.

Match results should be sent immediately by text message to 07831 123153. Outstanding annual pool fees of £30 should be left in a clearly marked envelope with staff at the Railway Tavern. Points will be deducted if league fees are not paid in the next seven days.
