NEWPORT LEGION MAINTAIN CHARGE IN NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE
NEWPORT (Shropshire): NRBL continued their march towards the Newport & District Pool League title with a predicted demolition of the Shakespeare A, but Sutherland Arms, Navigation and Shakespeare A remain on their heels.
The Wheatsheaf’s inconsistent run of form continues and they were put to the sword by the Junction A. Hyla Marklew’s rampant Staffordshire side refused to give the Chetwynd Aston outfit a single frame in the rout at Norbury.
The New Inn managed to edge Junction B, 4-2, at Stafford Street and honours were shared in the match between Lilleshall Sports Centre and the Swan. Dave Price put the home side in front by beating Emily MacPherson and Ian Roberts made it 2-0 with a useful win over Dave Hartshorne.
But Sean Finney took the wind out of Neil ‘Hurricane’ Hazeley’s sails to pull a frame back for the visitors and Dan Upton levelled the match by beating Stuart Weeden, who was standing in for the injured Mark Simpson – sidelined just before the start with a groin strain. Honours were shared in the doubles, as LSC stretched their unbeaten run to five games.
The spoils were also shared in the rearranged clash between the Wheatsheaf and the Navigation at Gnosall, while the Shakespeare A beat the Navy Club 4-2 to continue their impressive run of form.
