KING’S HEAD ‘A’ CLIMB TO THIRD IN NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Mick Collins’s King’s Head ‘A’ side continued their improvement from a sluggish start to their challenge for honours in the Newport & District Pool League with a 4-2 home victory over the Navy Club.
The result catapulted Collins’s side into third position in the league, the Upper Bar side benefiting from two match postponements on a night of international football.
Newport Royal British Legion dropped one frame on their way to a 5-1 victory over King’s Head B, which gave them a two-point cushion at the top of the table.
The Shakespeare A moved up to within striking distance of the top six with a 4-2 win over the Junction B at Upper Bar and the Junction A managed a similar winning score line over a plucky Shakespeare B at Norbury and climbed into the top half of the table for the first time this season.
The Railway Tavern beat the New Inn, 4-2, in a re-arranged game from last week and were then held to a 3-3 draw at a packed Railway Tavern by the gritty Wheatsheaf side during the England v Egypt football international.
Work commitments for three players meant that Lilleshall Sports Centre were forced to postpone their match against the New Inn until next week. The Swan postponed their match at the Sutherland Arms in Tibberton at the 11th hour and must re-arrange the game within two weeks to avoid losing the match, 4-2, by default. The Navigation beat Audco SC, 4-2, in a late result and climbed to second spot.
Match results should be sent immediately by text message to 07831 123153. Annual pool fees of £30 must be paid now and should be left with results sheets in a clearly marked envelope with bar staff at the Railway Tavern.
