SUTHERLAND TIBBERTON REGAIN
JOINT NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE LEAD
NEWPORT (Shropshire): The Sutherland Arms crushed King’s Head B to re-take joint top spot in the Newport & District Pool League.
The Tibberton side won every frame against the Chetwynd End ladies’ team and took advantage of the fact that the Newport Royal British Legion’s game against Lilleshall Sports Centre was postponed and the high-flying Swan were suffered a humiliating 5-1 home defeat to the Shakespeare A.
The Shakespeare A side won all four singles’ matches at Lower Bar, with Laura Brennan, Richard Young, Dan Brennan and Andy Potter stunning Emily MacPherson, Stu Morrey, Sean Finney and Dan Upton to take the three points after four frames. Morrey and Upton won a consolation doubles’ rack for the home side.
Hazel Ford-Lewis set the Shakespeare B on their way against the Navigation at Upper Bar, but the Gnosall side hit back to take a 4-2 victory and retain their chance of winning the title for the first time.
The Wheatsheaf snatched a similar 4-2 victory over a stubborn Navy Club side and honours were shared in the all-Norbury clash between the two Junction sides. The King’s Head’s won 4-2 at Audco SC and the Railway Tavern’s visit to the New Inn was postponed.
All match forms are to be delivered to the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to 07831 123153. Annual pool fees of £30 must be paid this week and should be left in a clearly marked envelope with staff at the Railway Tavern.
The five outstanding matches that were postponed because of the winter snap and not replayed on time were handed 3-3 draw score lines.
