HOST SECOND SAUDI RACING FESTIVAL ON THURSDAY

RIYADH (Saudi Arabia), Monday, February 8: The Zain Reem international race circuit in Saudi Arabia will play host to the second Saudi Race Festival on Thursday (February 11th). The increasingly popular race venue will duly host the second rounds of the 2010 Zain Lotus Cup and the Saudi Radical Championship.
January’s opening round of both championships was an unmitigated success with Saudi Arabia’s Faher Al-Sharif winning the Zain Lotus Cup Middle East race and Saeed Al-Mouri winning the 1.5-litre Saudi Radical Championship category.
The Zain Lotus race will again be held in conjunction with sponsor Saudi Oger. They will support two young Saudi drivers with a view to watching them progress through the sporting discipline. Mosaed Al-Khwayter finished second overall in the Saudi Oger Cup category of the first Lotus race for the sponsoring team behind 16-year-old Prince Mohamed Bin Faisal bin Abdullah bin Mohamed.
Al-Sharif is likely to defend his overall championship lead for the Big Wheels Team and is certain to face stiff competition from the Bison Reem Team’s Prince Mohamed Bin Faisal, Abdullah Al-Quain of the RST Team and representative drivers from Al-Ghassan Motors, the Rahez Racing Team and the likes of Prince Saud Bin Turki Al-Faisal and Saeed Al-Mouri, the winner of the 1.5-litre Saudi Radical Championship category last time out.
Prince Mohammed Bin Faisal has a golden future in the sport and his duel for honours with Al-Sharif is likely to be one of the highlights of the day’s Zain Lotus Cup race meeting.
Al-Mouri is likely to face a fierce challenge from Medhat Sheikh Al-Ard and Raed Abu Zenadh of the Bison Reem Racing Team for honours in the larger-engined Saudi Radical Championship category. Bandar Ali Reza leads the standings after the first round of the 1.3-litre class.
Qualifying will take place on Thursday morning and the actual racing will start at 2:30pm, with the Zain Lotus race preceding the Saudi Radical Championship action. Spectators are more than welcome and race officials are expecting numbers to increase as the popularity of motor sport in Saudi Arabia continues to expand.
“The first Saudi Racing Festival in January was a resounding success and we are delighted to be hosting the second round of both the Lotus and Radical categories on Thursday,” said HRH Prince Sultan bin Bandar Al-Faisal, CEO of the Zain Reem international circuit.
“Interest in motor sport at Reem has taken off over the last few months and everyone is pleased to see so many local drivers competing in the various disciplines. It is particularly pleasing to see the birth of new teams, such as the RST, Big Wheels and Rahez Racing entries.”
The Saudi Speed Festival has received valuable sponsorship from Zain, Toyota, Castrol, Bison energy drink, the Saudi Bin Laden Group of Companies, Al-Ghassan Motors and Saudi Radical.
