SUTHERLAND ARMS SEND LEGION CRASHING
NEWPORT (Shropshire): The Sutherland Arms at Tibberton stunned Newport Royal British Legion to move ahead of the defending champions for the first time in the 2010 Newport & District Pool League.
NRBL have dominated local pool for several seasons under the Audco banner and now under the new Legion club name, but they were brought crashing down to earth on a chilly winter’s night in Tibberton.
The Navy Club managed to squeeze past the Shakespeare B, 4-2, and the Ralway Tavern recorded a similar score line win over the Audco at Upper Bar. The Shakespeare A returned to form with a useful 4-2 win over the New Inn and 4-2 seemed to be the trend for the night; the Wheatsheaf continued their resurgence with a similar victory over the Junction B.
The Railway Tavern managed to beat the Shakespeare B, 5-1, in a re-arranged match that had originally fallen foul of the post-Christmas postponements, but LSC’s game against Junction A was called off because of business commitments for members of the Lilleshall side.
All match forms are to be delivered to the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to Neil Perkins on 07831 123153.
Annual pool fees of £30 are now due and should be left in a clearly marked envelope with staff at the Railway Tavern. All fees must be paid by the middle of February.
