NRBL REMAIN UNBEATEN AT TOP OF LEAGUE
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Newport Royal British Legion (NRBL) dropped their first frame of the season at the Navy Club, but maintained a 100% start to their 2009/2010 Newport & District Pool League campaign.
That was more than could be said for sorry Lilleshall Sports Centre, who remain totally pointless after crashing to a third 4-2 defeat of the season – this time to the jubilant Shakespeare B ladies’ team at Upper Bar.
“They came, they saw and they were badly beaten,” gloated Hazel Ford-Lewis of the winning team. Beaten skipper Dave ‘Benitez’ Price was unavailable for comment, as LSC remain joint bottom of the league with the Navy Club.
The Wheatsheaf ruined the Sutherland Arms’s 100% start to the season, with a hard-earned 4-2 win at Chetwynd Aston. A resurgent Junction B snatched a second successive victory – this time the King’s Head’s B team were on the receiving end, although a Norbury spokesman admitted that the 5-1 score line flattered to deceive.
Audco SC collected their first point of the season with a 3-3 draw against the high-flying New Inn and the Railway Tavern were rocked by a shock 4-2 home defeat to the Swan. Steve Whitlock’s Navigation rocked an out-of-sorts Junction A with a 4-2 victory, but the King’s Head A and Shakespeare A drew 3-3 at Chetwynd End.
The Sutherland Arms continued their run of rampant form with a 5-1 victory over fellow new boys Audco SC in a rearranged week one match and the Swan Newport went down 4-2 to King’s Head B in a late result from last week.
All match forms are to be delivered to the Railway Tavern in Newport and match results sent immediately by text message to Neil Perkins on 07831 123153. Annual pool fees of £30 are now due.
