LILLESHALL STUN AUDCO ‘B’ IN POOL LEAGUE DEMOLITION
NEWPORT (Shropshire): Lilleshall Sports Centre stunned high-flying Audco B with a 5-1 demolition during the 15th week of matches in the Newport & District Pool League.
The under-performing LSC side have been the biggest disappointment this season, their cause not helped by absentees and injuries, but the win over Audco was the highlight of a woeful season.
Luke Jones made light work of the inconsistent Dave Price to give Audco a 1-0 lead, but Greg Heathcote returned to form – after missing most of the season with a broken wrist – to outclass Tom Sayce and level the scores.
Debutant Marcus Thomas was relieved to beat Craig Hutchinson, after Hutchinson had put him on the ropes in the early exchanges. The frame reached a comical finish when Hutchinson dropped his cue on the table and scattered the balls everywhere.
“It’s like a dream to be playing in the big league at last,” quipped Thomas. “Paul Trevor has been my idle and mentor and to be able to play in the same league as him is like a dream for me. I have been waiting for this moment since I was six.”
Neil ‘Hurricance’ Hazeley breezed through his frame against Liam Matthews to put LSC 3-1 to the good and Price set up a five-ball clearance for Heathcote to seal the points and the win against Jack Dicken and Sayce. Thomas and Hazeley completed the demolition with an excellent three-ball clearance against Jones and Matthews. “It’s nice to have an easy game for a change,” boasted Hazeley.
Snooker league commitments forced league leaders, Audco A, to postpone their game against the Railway Tavern and the Navy Club’s visit to Junction A was also postponed.
Wrockwardine Wood Football Club held on to take a 4-2 win over the improving Shakespeare B, with Kim Rigby and Ade Darrell winning two frames for the visitors.
The King’s Head achieved a similar score against lowly Junction B at Chetwynd End and the Wheatsheaf crashed to a 4-2 defeat at Navigation A in the final game of the evening.
