WOODHOUSE STRIKES AGAIN AS KING’S HEAD GO SECOND
NEWPORT (Shropshire): The King’s Head’s Lynn Woodhouse proved that last week’s sensational double win against the Lilleshall Sports Centre was no fluke by getting her name on the winners’ list in the Chetwynd End side’s 4-2 victory over high-flying Audco B during week 13 of the Newport Pool League.
The crunch table-topping clash enabled the King’s Head to go level on points with their young rivals with a game in hand. League-leading Audco A maintained a three-point lead with a 5-1 victory against the Navy Club at the Newport Legion, although they have an extra game in hand over their rivals against Lilleshall Sports Centre.
Mick Beech pipped Alan Pritchett to put the league leaders 1-0 to the good, skipper Andy Lycett beat Gerry Nunn to make it two, a defeat for Russ Woodhouse made it 2-1, but Colin Pink put the home side back in control by beating Scott Smith. Colin Farge joined Beech to seal the match in the fifth frame and Lycett and Pink completed the rout in frame six.
The Junction A crushed the Shakespeare B 6-0 to move up to a clear fourth in the league table, while Shakespeare A beat Junction B 5-1 at Upper Bar.
The Wheatsheaf crashed to their biggest ever defeat at the Railway Tavern, with Ben Clews’s resurgent side sending the Chetwynd Aston ‘clique’ packing after a 6-0 thrashing. Wrockwardine Wood Football Club benefited from a 4-2 walk-over win over lowly Navigation B, but both Lilleshall Sports Centre and Navigation A had byes.
