AUDCO A STROLL ON AS NAVIGATION A FALTER

NEWPORT (Shropshire): The Audco A surged four points clear in the Newport Pool League after another emphatic 6-0 demolition, with the Shakespeare B team the hapless victims at Bellman’s Yard on this occasion.

‘Mad’ Mick Beech continued his sensational unbeaten run with a rather fortunate frame win over Ade Darrall and Paul Trevor made it 2-0 by beating Shakespeare landlady Hazel Ford-Lewis. Jon Mason and Colin Pink recorded easy wins over Kim Rigby and Hannah Evans to secure the three points and Andy Lycett stepped into the fray in the doubles to team up with Pink to seal the whitewash.

Audco B managed to stay on their illustrious Audco A counterparts’ coat-tails with a hard-earned 4-2 victory against the Shakespeare’s A team, Jack Jones playing particularly well to secure wins in both his singles and doubles matches.

The King’s Head and Wheatsheaf had byes this week and that enabled Wrockwardine Wood Football Club to move into fourth place. Luke Hayward and Kim Worrall got the home side off to a great start against Lilleshall Sports Centre. The away side were without skipper Dave Price, who was attending the Forest-Derby cup replay, but Ben Longstaff hit back quickly for the visitors with a win over David Worrall to make it 2-1.

Charlie Hayward snatched a tight rack from Neil ‘Hurricane’ Hazeley to make it 3-1 to the home side, but Nick Clewley and Longstaff dug deep to eke out the fifth frame and send the match into a tense finish. Hazeley and Neil Perkins started well against David Worrall and Charlie Hayward, with Hazeley potting three quick balls, and Perkins managed to clear the final four balls to seal the frame and earn the visitors a deserved 3-3 draw.

The Railway Tavern managed to edge a tight encounter against the Navy Club to move up to ninth in the table, but the Navigation A crashed to a shock 4-2 home defeat to Junction B. In the final match of the night, Junction A dropped two frames in a 4-2 win against the bottom side, Navigation B.
