SAUDI’S SHARQIA RALLY WITHDRAWS FROM
MERC AND MOVES TO NOVEMBER 2009 DATE

·MERC set to run over seven rounds in 2009

RIYADH (Saudi Arabia): The Sharqia International Rally will not be a round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) in 2009. The event was scheduled to run on April 7th-9th from Half Moon Bay in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but it has now been withdrawn from the regional series and will run as a stand-alone international special stage rally on November 10th-12th, 2009.

The 2009 FIA Middle East Rally Championship will, therefore, run over seven rounds, with the Kuwait International Rally hosting teams for round two on March 6th-7th. Competitors have already competed in Qatar and further rounds in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus and Dubai will complete the 2009 calendar.

The Sharqia International Rally will be open to drivers from all over the world and will be FIA-affiliated and run to the same high standard as other international FIA events.
