BCCC ORGANISERS ANTICIPATE
BUMPER ENTRY FOR DRIFFIELD

Tricky MOD venue set to host round two of BCCC
Todmorden’s Howard Chopping joins field in Tomcat

NEWTOWN (Wales): The 2008 Britpart MSA British Cross-Country Championship (BCCC) heads to Driffield in Yorkshire on Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th for the second round of the increasingly-popular six-round series.

A bumper entry of 60 cars tackled the opening round in wet and muddy conditions at Baden Hall in Staffordshire last month. Officials at Marches 4×4 Motorsport Management are confident that a similar number will take part in round two, where Deeside’s Neil Davey will defend his slender championship lead at the wheel of a GSR 206 Evo.

The Driffield event will take place on a special stage that is roughly five miles long and is situated on a spectacular, purpose-built Ministry of Defence site used for driver training.

The man-made location features several steep climbs, stomach-churning drops, narrow tracks and several fast gravel stretches and will offer a stern test for BCCC competitors, particularly when the leaders are sure to be separated by a handful of seconds over the two days. The impressive venue also features a tarmac camping and service area, while the usual catering facilities will be provided by event officials.

Davey is sure to face fierce competition from Baden Hall front-runner Ian Rochelle, Huddersfield’s Richard Kershaw, Holywell’s Tim Dilworth, Stirling’s John Cockburn, Bamber Bridge’s Dan Lofthouse and numerous other drivers from all corners of the UK. The Trophy and Clubman categories are also expected to be well-supported.

In addition to the many names registered for the opening round at Baden Hall, Todmorden’s Howard Chopping has joined the BCCC field and will take part in the Clubman category at Driffield with co-driver Shaun Tomlinson in a Tomcat.

Entries will close on Friday, May 23rd and are available from Wendy Tomley, Cwm Cochen, Bettws, Newtown, Powys, SY16 3LQ, Tel: 01686 626641, E-mail: WT@Tomleys.co.uk. Further information is also available from www.marches4x4.com.

"Driffield promises to be a fascinating venue, which is sure to be a real test for our competitors,’ enthused clerk of the course Selwyn Kendrick. "The competition at Baden Hall was close and exciting and we are looking forward to seeing a full entry on round two."
