KING’S HEAD STORM INTO NEWPORT POOL LEAGUE CONTENTION
NEWPORT (Shropshire): The King’s Head stormed into contention at the top of the 2007-2008 Newport & District Pool League after a pair of easy wins against the New Inn and Navy Club.
They brushed the New Inn aside 5-1 in a one-sided encounter, with Mick Collins, Matt Collins, Ian Perry and Neil Hallett doing the damage in the singles. Sam Higgins, Hallett, Irene Whittington and Perry set the King’s Head on their way to a 6-0 whitewash of the Navy Club last Wednesday night, as the Chetwynd End team claimed the first bonus point of the new season for a 6-0 win.
Lilleshall Sports Centre made up for a disappointing start by beating the Navy Club 4-2 and they fought back from 0-2 down to clinch a 3-3 draw against the New Inn. When table-topping Audco visited the LSC home venue, Neil Perkins, Greg Heathcote and Ben Longstaff pushed LSC into a three-nil lead. But they were pegged back by Andy Lycett, Paul Trevor and Anthony Heathcote and the teams settled for a 3-3 draw with the last frame taking just under an hour.
A lack of communication from any member of the Sutherland Tibberton in recent days means that they have been removed from the league with immediate effect. The team failed to turn up at a recent match against the King’s Head. All teams please note that this game will be a bye in future weeks.
