BORC ORGANISERS SET TO STAGE ROUND TWO
OF CHAMPIONSHIP AT BLEDDFA IN MID-WALES
Second BORC round set to return to base of inaugural Baja GB;
Gordon Monaghan heads to Bleddfa with five-point series lead
NEWTOWN (Wales): Marches 4×4 Motorsport Management Limited have announced that the second round of the 2007 Matador Tyres British Off-Road Championship (BORC) will take place near Bleddfa in Mid-Wales on June 2nd-3rd. The event had been originally scheduled to take place the same weekend at Ellesmere in Shropshire.
The two-day event will be based at the Stud Farm in Bleddfa that was used as the rally headquarters for last year’s inaugural Baja GB. The venue has also been used for previous Marches Hillrallies and will feature the usual camping and catering facilities.
A new special stage, approximately six miles long, will be held in the fields and woods around the Stud Farm and is set to feature several fast, open sections and technical tracks through the woods.
~We have switched from the original Ellesmere venue to this proven and popular replacement location at Bleddfa,~ said organising committee spokesman Chris Tomley. ~We were made to feel most welcome when we used the Stud Farm last August for the very first Baja GB and I am sure that this event will also be popular with competitors.~
The opening round of the series was held at the new Baden Hall venue in Staffordshire and a bumper entry benefited from abnormally warm weather conditions in early April to enjoy a feast of motorsport. Gordon Monaghan won that first encounter and duly takes a five-point championship lead to Mid-Wales in his Monaghan RS.
He fended off a two-way challenge from Huddersfield’s Richard Kershaw to clinch the win on the last of 11 runs through an excellent special stage. Abergavenny’s Keith Lewis holds third place in the championship in his Simmbugghini.
Stirling’s John Cockburn heads to Bleddfa in fifth place in the overall standings and the lead in Class G, while Lancashire’s Carl Duffield will be hoping to build upon his early advantage in Class E.
Burnley’s David Nutter currently leads the Trophy category by five points in his Tomcat from Chorley’s Matt Lowe and David Brown. Newark’s Philip Elliott and Tim Hayday, from Essex, complete the top five after round one in their Land Rover Discoveries.

Access points – Rally HQ/Special stage – The rally headquarters is at Nant-y-corddi, two miles on the Bleddfa side of Monaughty on the A488. Leave the road on OS map 148 – 225 680. The entrance to the farm is at SO 224 679.
