QATAR MARINE SPORTS FEDERATION SIGNS
MAJOR CONTRACT WITH VICTORY RACE TEAM

Massive boost for marine sports in Qatar;
Boat and engine contracts for Victory Team

DOHA (Qatar): The Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF) announced at the Qatar Sports International Exhibition (QSI) a major contract with the Dubai-based Victory Racing Team, today (Wednesday).

The Victory Team’s new Commercial Division will handle the QMSF’s boat maintenance programme for the entire 2004 season, after an agreement was signed at QSI between Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation, and Khalfan Harib, Managing Director Victory Team.

The new contract will extend to the upgrading of boats and engines and Sheikh Hassan confirmed that the QMSF will use Victory Team’s Lamborghini V12 engines in 2004. These race applications benefit from ongoing dry sump development.

~We are delighted to have signed this ground-breaking deal,~ admitted Sheikh Hassan. ~Victory Team are one of the global success stories of powerboat racing and they have the expertise in Dubai to build high-speed race boats to the very highest standard.

~We have signed to use an initial eight engines. These proved to be very reliable in 2003 and offer more horse power than the original Lamborghini engine. The Qatar 96 Team will also use the Victory Team Drop Box, which has proven reliability and the advantage of less weight.

~In collaboration with my team mate Matteo Nicolini we have also developed changes to the bottom of the race boat. These revisions improve handling in racing environments and should make our Qatar 96 entry more competitive in this year’s UIM Class One World Power Boat Championship.~

~Victory will maintain and service all the engines and boats of the Qatar Federation,~ added Harib. ~Even during the European race meetings, the Qatar boats will be serviced in the same yard as the Victory boats. We are proud to serve our brother in the Gulf. This has come about because of our commitment to being the best. Over the years Victory has shown that it is committed to quality and our past records and data we keep have come to good use.~

Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani and Italian throttleman Matteo Nicolini will test the new boat over the coming weeks, prior to the opening round of the 2004 UIM Class One World Power Boat Championship in Lisbon, Portugal, on Sunday, May 23rd.
